Geranium is useful for all types of skin conditions because it helps to balance sebum levels. It works very well as a skin cleanser, helping to balance out sluggish, congested and oily skin.

Geranium also helps to improve blood circulation just below the surface of skin and makes melanin distribution more uniform, therefore helping to enliven pale skin. Geranium is also very good at helping scars, spots and blemishes to fade away and vanish.

This essential oil is extracted from the plant Pelargonium Odorantissimum of the geraniaceae family. It has a sweet and heavy aroma.

Geranium helps to regulate hormonal function and is therefore recommended for pre-menstrual tension, menopausal problems and heavy bleeding. It is said to help with inflammation and congestion of the breasts.

Its diuretic properties help the body in the process of toxin elimination. It has a stimulating effect on the lymphatic system (which keeps infections at bay and disposes of waste products) and is also a good tonic for blood circulation.

Geranium naturally helps to reduce anxiety and depression and helps in promoting a more cheery disposition.

You can use this essential oil in several different ways:

In the bath: For a wonderfully relaxing experience at the end of a busy day, just add 6 - 8 drops of essential oil to a warm bath. Mix the water well before getting in.

In an oil burner: A good way of using essential oils is to vaporise them, for example by using an oil burner. To use an oil burner, fill the bowl at the top of the burner with water and place 6-10 drops of essential oil in the water. Then place a lighted tea light underneath the bowl. The water and essential oils evaporate as steam, letting the aroma of the essential oils fill the room.

For massage: Massage is also a very good method of application because the skin, as our largest organ readily absorbs the essential oil into the bloodstream. You can use one or up to four essential oils according to your particular needs and add them to a cold-pressed oil, in a dilution of 5 drops of essential oil to 10ml of carrier oil. If you have particularly sensitive skin, use only 3 drops.
