Borage oil, also known as Starflower oil, is the richest source (up to 25%) of GLA (gamma linolenic acid) which is a very rare fatty acid and essential for the synthesis of regulatory homones and body tissues.
It is a good treatment for dry and damaged skin and conditions such as eczema as it supplements the bodies own natural oils. Borage oil helps soothe sunburn can also be used on dry scaly scalp and associated conditions.
It is good for regenerating and stimulating skin cell activity and is very penetrating as absorbs deeply into the skin tissues.
Borage seed oil can feel a little oily on the skin, so added it to a lighter carrier oil such as apricot kernel will prevent this, between 5% and 10% is good.
To prevent oxidation, borage seed oil should be stored in a cool dark place. It is easily destroyed by heat, light, humidity, and exposure to oxygen. Refrigeration after opening is recommended.
